Course Description:

American Red Cross Blended Learning Lifeguard Course

This Course combines the flexibility of online learning with hands on training. It provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over

Participants must be:

  • Minimum age: 15 years by last day of class.
  • Able to complete a swim-tread-swim sequence as follows:
    • Jump into the water fully submerge and resurface.
    • Swim 150 yards (using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both).
    • Tread water for 2 minutes maintaing position at the surface of the water using legs only.
    • Swim an additional 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both.
  • Able to complete a timed submerged object retrieval within 1 minute 40 seconds as follows:
    • Starting in the water  – Swim out 20 yards
    • Surface dive/submerge (feet-first or head-first) to a depth of 7 to 12 feet.
    • Retrieve a 10-pound object and resurface.
    • Swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting position while holding the object at the surface with both hands
    • Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.

Participants who successfully complete the Lifeguarding course receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for 2 years.
